THE HAIR RAISING ART OF STYLIST GUIDO PALAU
Mohawks, weaves and dip dye hair creations go from street to runway
by Maria Raposo
Much more than just a hair stylist, Guido Palau is synonymous with reinventing youth culture; from punk rock Mohawks, Bowie hair wedges and dip dye hair for Prada to mind-boggling basket weave creations for Alexander McQueen, Guido has reinvented hair trends, elevating styling into an art form that we have come to appreciate.
The iconoclastic Guido has the ability to instill hair with a mood and an aesthetic that has transformed his styling into a running social commentary. He combines references from Japanese Manga to neoclassical art, sculpting his creations into an ever-changing vision of contemporary beauty. Through his hair designs, Guido creates idealized, hybrid visuals of past, present and, his vision of, future beauties. Once told by Vidal Sassoon that he’d never make it as a hairdresser, Paulau’s raw talent and youthful defiance set him on his path to become a pioneering force within the fashion world.
In his book “Hair by Guido”, Guido Palau and David Sims present a collection of breathtaking hair images that push the norms of conventional beauty.
