BEHIND THE VEIL
A symbol for shifting debate

Surrounded by fierce debate, the Islamic veil is fighting for respect in Western culture. Up against France’s burqa ban and the argument against veils being worn in court, it’s clear that global perceptions of the Arab world are shifting. For some, the veil is a symbol of female oppression whereas for others it represents womanhood and faith.
